Life of Adults

Now I finally understand the importance of Hump Day for the working class..

Hah. The funny thing is that is the only line I was able to type last week because of how busy and worn out I was. Let's fast forward to where I am now: lying with my feet propped up on the couch in my flat, sippin on a warm bedtime tea accompanied by a gingernut biscuit, listening to Cam play Tiki Taane "Always on my Mind" on his guitar, and trying to figure out my next move. I'm a bit ashamed to say, but I didn't do very well in the big bad world. Let's just say, Jill got laid off on Friday. I really don't want to get into details and backtrack, but it really did work out for the best. The flash fitness gym I was working for wasn't the gold at the end of the rainbow.

Heres a clip from the email I sent my mum:

Dear Mum,

Just wanted to shoot ya an email while i have a little time to breathe here at work. I'm glad I didn't talk to you after the first or second day because it was quite stressful learning everything new. Man oh man. It takes a lot of practice to be a sales lady. haha. I went through the phone book and did telemarketing calls, I've made up heaps of scripts, typed member emails, learned how to give the gym tour, learned about all the supplements: whey protein, bcaas, glutamine, etc., as well as tackled the whole computer system. Oh wait and learned how to take people through the fitness profile forms, contracts, learned all of the promotions and fee details, learned how to make supplement shakes, and how to laminate and sort the name badges. Quite a lot here. So please forgive me for not getting back to you. Its gettin AMAZINGLY easier and they are giving me a little slack now that I've completed most of the training! which is soooo good. And they lended me an automatic car at the moment to get to and from work. But the days are all at work. How do you do the hours 11-7 or around that. Theres almost no time for anything. Definitely understand how you feel now. How in the world do you do it. haha. Well i just wanted to fill you in real quick. Gotta get back to work here.

Well I was definitely in high spirits when I wrote that! I must have not wanted to mention the worst part of the job... TELEMARKETING. aka flipping through the A's and B's in the phone book and bothering the whole Waikato community during dinner and family hours to hook a membership. Way more awful than it sounds.

The worst bit of it, is that they were trying to offer me $300 for a 40 hr week. Which is pretty ridiculous if you think about all the stuff they have me doing. The minimum wage here is 12.75. So not only is that salary 42% below the minimum wage pay, but also illegal under the NZ labour board. Now I hope you understand my situation kids.

Anyways now that its all said and done, I'm on the job hunt again! This time I'm sprinting far from the sales area! haha and possibly the 40 hrs. I don't want to toss away the crayons and lollypops just yet. I wanna be young forever...don't you dare doubt me!

I'm also picking up the paddle sport.... drumroll... ROWING! Haha of course its after they just finished the World Rowing Champs in Hamilton last week! I'm actually super stoked to give it a go! Something new and different... oh wait thats all i've been doing: driving manual cars, testing out sales jobs, setting up a kiwi bank account, retrieving a library card, putting together a CV (british resume), etc.

Bring it on world!
x
